Baoshan, Yunnan, China – March 2024:
In response to an unseasonal frost event in late February that impacted early-blooming coffee plants, the Baoshan coffee association has accelerated the rollout of its climate resilience initiative. The event has underscored the urgency of adopting practices that mitigate climate risk to secure the future of this historic origin.
The initiative, formally launched in March, promotes the planting of shade trees to buffer microclimates and the distribution of cold-resistant coffee cultivars developed by local agricultural institutes. These measures aim to protect the plants from increasing temperature volatility. Furthermore, the association is providing subsidies for frost prevention equipment, such as wind machines and irrigation for protective ice coating. This proactive response demonstrates a sophisticated level of risk management becoming critical for origin sustainability. Our direct relationships in Baoshan ensure our supply chain is prioritized and resilient, guaranteeing you a stable and high-quality source of coffee from this evolving region.
